From ocean waves:
Ends and adjacent centers turn half
New centers meet and turn 3/4
New very centers meet and turn 1/2 while the ends turn in to form stars
Stars turn 3/4; very centers are now "leaders" (original our-facing centers)
Leaders proceed to circle the other star, others follow
Leader and immediate follower flip to become the far center and end of a wave
Last two followers become the near center and end of the resulting wave.
